We invite creatives to interpret historical assets that will be enticing and engaging with new audiences.
The University of Leicester invite creative people with great ideas to help turn historical assets about three buildings in Leicester’s Cultural quarter into interesting, creative and dynamic events or experiences.
The whole idea is to attract and inspire people who wouldn’t normally engage with historical archive information about Leicester’s industrial heritage. We need your help to turn this information into something meaningful and engaging, so that new audiences can connect with Leicester’s past.
You are invited to an event that will:
-
Outline this fascinating and inspiring project
-
Present unique and unearthed archive information about Leicester’s Cultural Quarter’s past
-
Invite proposals for the design and delivery of a demonstration event in November this year that will demonstrate how engagement with creative people in their history can bring heritage to new audiences through innovative ways. The success of this project hopes to lead to further funding and possibly contribute to upcoming major city events in the future.
This is a great fantastic creative opportunity to enthuse audiences and introduce them to diverse industrial history of Leicester’s Cultural Quarter.
The project is based around the historic interpretation of a cluster of key buildings on Rutland Street. We have the film, unique adverts, pictures, sound clips, amazing stories of personal experiences, international travels and the great elastic robbery of 1875!
We’re looking for people who can translate this information into different formats, including but not exclusively:
film, dance, theatre, comedy, installation, sculpture, art, craft, design, exhibition, interactive platforms, augmented reality, graphics and online platforms etc.
We will launch the project through a presentation of the assets at an event on the 18th July 2013 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm. You are invited to come along and explore and discover stories with the University researchers, archivists and project team and discuss how you might creatively bring them to life for a new audience.
Funding is available within the project for small to medium scale creative interpretations to be displayed at the demonstration event. However, we do not want to deter larger scale formats as these can be developed and proposed for further funding. Please come along to the launch event with an open mind and any ideas to discuss with the project team.
The project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the University of Leicester and is managed by Munro + Whitten, with support from Leicester City Council.
